Benefits of Dental Cleanings
Dental cleanings are important for the health of your teeth. Take a look at these specific benefits provided by a dentist in Sewell, NJ.
Statistics show that 1 in 4 Americans have tooth decay that is not treated! Many people are afraid to go to the dentist even for relatively straightforward procedures such as a dental cleaning.
However, dental cleanings are often essential if you want to have healthy teeth. The benefits of dental feelings are many and if you are still on the fence about exactly how it will benefit you.
Here are some of the main ways in which you can improve your dental health by getting a cleaning from a dentist in
Sewell, NJ.
Get a Whiter Smile
One of the more obvious benefits of getting a dental cleaning is that it removes stains from the teeth. If you have stains on your teeth from drinking beverages such as coffee it can make you self-conscious about your smile.
The best way to fix this issue is to get your teeth cleaned by your dentist. Dental cleanings can make your teeth whiter and brighter.
Conquer Bad Breath
Conquering bad breath can be difficult and it can happen for a number of reasons.
It may be that you need a tooth extracted or you have periodontal disease.
However, one common reason why you may be suffering from bad breath is that you need a cleaning. When tartar and plaque begin to build up it can cause odors. Getting a dental cleaning can eliminate this very quickly.
Stop Cavities from Forming
Cavities can cause you to lose your teeth prematurely. One way in which you can ward off cavities is by having your teeth cleaned regularly.
When plaque starts to build up it can cause teeth to decay. Plaque on your teeth can start eating away at the enamel of your teeth and this can cause you to have cavities.
Daily brushing and flossing of your teeth along with regular cleanings are some of the best ways to help prevent cavities.
Prevent Loose Teeth
When plaque starts to develop at your gum line it will cause your teeth to become loose. When your teeth start becoming lose it can lead to gum disease such as gingivitis.
All of this can be avoided by simply removing the plaque at a dental cleaning.
Improve Your Health
When you don't have good dental health it can affect other areas of your health as well.
Rotting teeth can lead to abscesses on your gums. Whenever you get an abscess on your gums bacteria can get into your bloodstream. This can get very dangerous.
Gum disease is linked to other serious health problems too. There has been a link to heart disease and even diabetes.
Cleaning your teeth bi-annually can even help prevent oral cancer. Many dentists will do an oral cancer screening when they are cleaning your teeth. Even if they do not take these steps, your dentist will be able to spot any abnormalities in your mouth that may be precancerous.
Promotes a Healthy Pregnancy
If you are pregnant or nursing then improper oral hygiene can affect not only you but your baby as well. Infections of your gum can pass bacteria onto your baby. This can have a negative impact on your child's development. You should get your teeth cleaned regularly at the dentist during pregnancy.
When you are pregnant several hormones are released. Due to the fluctuating nature of the hormones during pregnancy gum disease is not uncommon. You may also develop an infection of the bones that hold your teeth in place in your mouth.
This condition is often linked to low birth weight in babies as well as preterm delivery of babies.
Additionally, if you have morning sickness during pregnancy you may experience a lot of vomiting. Vomiting during morning sickness can expose your teeth to a lot of stomach acids which can erode the enamel on your teeth by demineralizing it and causing tooth decay.
You should practice rinsing your mouth out with water or mouthwash containing fluoride as soon as you have vomited during morning sickness. Afterward, you should brush your teeth if possible.
Save Time and Money
Having your teeth cleaned at least twice a year is an effective preventative dental procedure. Teeth cleaning will effectively remove plaque and bacteria that can cause gum diseases and decay in your teeth. This means that you can avoid having to get more costly dental procedures done in the future.
If your teeth become damaged you may need to get crowns and bridges or even dental implants. These procedures can be costly especially if you don't have the right type of insurance or no insurance at all.
Taking steps to secure your dental health by getting regular cleanings is a good way to avoid having to spend time at the dentist getting restorative dental procedures. Some procedures also require recuperation time which can take you away from your business, or your work.
Dental Cleanings Can Save Your Teeth
The bottom line is that dental cleanings are vital if you want to preserve your teeth. Dental cleanings make it easy for your dentist to spot problems early and this can help to prevent you from having to go through more rigorous procedures to save or even extract your teeth.
Since dental cleanings can also spot problems early it can save you on the cost of cosmetic surgery for replacing lost teeth. Overall, avoiding tooth loss is made easier when you visit your dentist for a dental cleaning regularly.
